Helping Kids Move Play & Thrive

Helping Your Child Shine Through Life

Kids Physiotherapy Waterford is owned by Miley Joyce, Chartered Paediatric Physiotherapist. Miley specialises in paediatric physiotherapy to help children reach their full movement potential. Whether your child is facing developmental delays, musculoskeletal concerns, or complex physical disabilities, Miley offers compassionate, tailored care to support their journey to improved mobility and well-being.

Welcome

I support children and young people who may move differently, find physical activity challenging, experience pain, or feel less confident in their bodies. This includes children with developmental or coordination differences, neurodivergent children, and those recovering from injury or managing ongoing discomfort. My work is play-based, child-led, and grounded in neurodevelopment — meeting each child where they are and building from there.

Assessment looks at how your child moves, plays, and participates in everyday activities, considering strength, balance, coordination, joint movement, and sensory processing as needed. Therapy is individualised and responsive, using meaningful play and movement to support confidence, capacity, and participation over time. Parents are actively supported, with space to ask questions and make informed decisions together.

Miley's Approach

1.Child-Centered Care

Your child is unique and has their own unique abilities, needs, personality, and preferences. Miley takes special interest and care in developing a keen understanding of your child so that assessments, interactions and treatments are tailored to meet these unique qualities.

2. Goal-Oriented Therapy

Miley will help you develop specific functional goals for your child and will develop a holistic treatment plan to work toward achieving these goals so that your child will thrive in life.

3. Fun

It is vital to work in a lighthearted and fun way so that you and your child feel relaxed and supported. At Kids Physiotherapy Waterford, providing this fun is at the heart of the intervention so that your child always feels like they are at play, not therapy.

🔹 Initial Assessment (Developmental) – 60 minutes

🔹 Follow-up Sessions – 30 or 45 minutes

The number of sessions depends on the child’s condition and progress. We create personalized treatment plans and adjust them as needed.

Recommended Blocks of Physiotherapy Care

For some children and young people, physiotherapy is most effective when there is a clear plan over a defined number of sessions, rather than isolated appointments.

This can be particularly helpful for:

  • children with musculoskeletal pain or injury, where several sessions are often needed to fully resolve symptoms

  • children with ongoing developmental or motor needs, where progress benefits from consistent input over time

In these situations, I may recommend a short block of physiotherapy sessions.

A block typically involves:

  • a small number of sessions (often three to four)

  • appointments spaced as clinically indicated, depending on the child’s needs

  • clear goals to guide therapy and home programmes

  • a review at the end of the block to decide on next steps

Some families find this structure helpful as it supports follow-through, continuity, and clearer progress, while reducing the need to repeatedly decide when to book the next appointment.

Blocks are optional, and families are always welcome to continue with individual, pay-as-you-go appointments if that better suits their circumstances.

Where a block is chosen, sessions are paid for in advance and are offered at a reduced rate compared to individual bookings.

If you are unsure which option is most appropriate for your child, this can always be discussed together.

Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows movement is ideal. For lower limb assessments, shorts are recommended.

Developmental:

This appointment type is for complex conditions of a developmental nature. This would include assessments for those with neurological conditions (e.g. Cerebral Palsy) neurodevelopmental conditions (e.g. Autism, Developmental Coordination Disorder), developmental delays, genetic conditions (e.g. Down Syndrome), complex medical conditions or other concerns related to gross motor development of your child.

Musculoskeletal:

This appointment type if for those with joint pain, growing pains, muscle pain, sports injuries, musculoskeletal variants (e.g. in-toeing, out-toeing, flat feet), hip dysplasia, plagiocephaly, scoliosis and other solely musculoskeletal concerns.

Follow-ups:

Generally, 45-minute follow-up is recommended for those in the developmental category as above with 30 minutes being recommended for those in the musculoskeletal category. However, depending on your child’s needs and your preferences, the suitable follow-up appointment can be booked. As needed, please speak with Miley.

It is essential that any cancellations or rescheduling occurs at least 24 hours in advance of an appointment. Frequent late cancellations or rescheduling may result in your child’s slot been offered to another child on the waiting list.
