Child and Adolescent Fitness and Wellbeing
Child and Adolescent Fitness and Wellbeing
I believe that physical activity is not just about exercise – it’s about helping children and adolescents build confidence, develop coordination, and discover a lifelong love of movement. Supporting your child’s fitness and overall wellness enhances physical health, mental well-being, resilience, and social skills.
Why Fitness and Wellness Matter
Regular movement and wellness activities offer many benefits for children and adolescents, including:
- Improved strength, balance, and coordination
- Enhanced motor skills and motor planning
- Increased confidence, self-esteem, and independence
- Reduced stress and improved overall well-being
- Development of healthy habits that support lifelong fitness
- Support for digestive health and gut mobility – movement, including specific sequences inspired by yoga, can help promote healthy digestion and abdominal comfort
Understanding the Challenges Children and Adolescents May Face
Some young people find participating in sports or structured physical activities challenging. This can be due to:
- Low confidence or self-consciousness
- Limited interest in traditional sports
- Pain, discomfort, or previous injuries
- Difficulties with balance, coordination, or motor planning
- Sensory sensitivities or other developmental differences
These barriers can make physical activity feel daunting, even for children and adolescents who might otherwise enjoy movement. With the right support, many discover that physical activity can be fun, empowering, and confidence-building.
My Tailored Approach
Every child and adolescent is unique. An assessment with a trained therapist helps to:
- Understand your child’s current abilities and needs
- Identify barriers to participation
- Develop a personalized program that is safe, enjoyable, and confidence-building
I focus on:
- Building confidence and self-esteem through movement
- Encouraging exploration and enjoyment of physical activity
- Supporting skill development, fitness, and holistic wellness
- Working one-to-one to meet each child’s individual needs
I also integrate yoga principles and movement where appropriate. Having trained in yoga for children with additional needs and practicing yoga regularly myself, I use gentle, structured yoga-based activities as an adjunct to therapy to support flexibility, strength, balance, mindfulness, and gut mobility. This approach can help children and adolescents develop a deeper awareness of their body, improve posture, and enjoy movement in a calming and playful way.
Children of All Abilities and Ages
Whether your child has developmental differences, temporary challenges, or simply needs encouragement to engage in physical activity, my programs are designed to meet them where they are, helping them grow in confidence, skills, and enjoyment of movement.
