Miley Joyce

Miley is a Chartered Physiotherapist and member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) and CORU. Miley qualified with a Master of Science (MSc.) – Physiotherapy degree from The University of Brighton. Miley worked initially in the UK completing core training in respiratory care, care of the elderly, neurology, accident and emergency care, hydrotherapy and musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Later Miley moved to Waterford and worked as part of the physiotherapy department at University Hospital Waterford and Primary Care. During this time Miley worked on developing a special interest in knee pain and arthritis, assisting in the development of a comprehensive knee programme for those suffering with knee pain and functional difficulties.
Miley then moved into the Paediatric Physiotherapy department within the community services in Waterford. For the past eight years Miley has remained in this specialism developing specialist skills in this area. This work has included treatment of children with; Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Global Developmental Delay, Developmental Coordination Disorder, Intellectual Disability, Epilepsy, Genetic Conditions and Musculoskeletal conditions. Miley has a special interest in the assessment and treatment of children with hypermobility syndromes and chronic pain.  Miley also has a special interest in the use of the DIR Floortime approach to assist in the development of his relationships with children with communication and developmental delays. Through this wonderful approach Miley helps children to reach their potential in physical development which in turn helps them to excel in other areas of their development.
Miley is passionate about recognising each child for their individuality, their unique qualities, preferences and wishes. Miley recognises the wonderful natural intelligence that each child has and strives to honour this in every interaction, in every goal set, and in every treatment plan. Miley wishes to ensure that every child feels safe, welcome, seen and heard as an equal in every decision made.

Miley is also passionate about recognising that physical and emotional development and wellbeing is rooted in the foundations of offering all the conditions necessary for optimised growth and development. Miley sees the importance of all aspects of a child’s life including their family, friends, school, play opportunities, nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle. Miley provides a safe environment and opportunity for families to consider their child in a holistic way so that the best results can be achieved.

Miley is dad to three energetic boys who love their sports and who love to explore and climb! Together they enjoy watersports, beach days, playgrounds, playing games on the trampoline and lots of rough play! Miley is involved with U6 hurling coaching for his youngest son’s team and is passionate about helping the children to have lots of fun, but also to challenge themselves at their own level.

Mission

The mission of Kids Physiotherapy Waterford is to provide a comprehensive and specialist paediatric physiotherapy for a range of conditions, for children and young people. The mission is to ensure that assessment and treatment provided is up to date, evidence based, uniquely tailored, fun, effective, goal oriented, and child and family centred.

Vision

The vision is to be the first choice for paediatric physiotherapy in Waterford and the South East of Ireland. Miley aims to develop a range of service options including gross motor skill groups. And in the medium to long term to develop an innovative, multidisciplinary treatment approach which will offer greater affordability, real time and functional input for child and parent. Along side this Miley aims to create a support network for families and children.
