Mighty Movers Class

PHYSIOTHERAPY-LED MOVEMENT CLASSES

Fun, supportive movement classes for children aged 6–11 who may find balance, coordination and confidence more challenging.

Does your child struggle with balance, coordination or confidence in sport or play? Mighty Movers helps children build strength, coordination, body awareness and movement confidence in a warm, structured small-group setting.

Who is Mighty Movers for?

  • Children who find coordination, balance or motor skills challenging
  • Children who appear less confident in movement or avoid physical activity
  • Children who find it difficult to keep up with peers in sport or playground activities
  • Children who tire more easily during physical activities
  • Children who have been described as “clumsy” or uncoordinated
  • Children with a diagnosis such as DCD, autism or ADHD, or similar movement challenges

This class is especially helpful for children who:

  • Struggle to stay consistent with exercises at home
  • Are ready to move on from 1:1 sessions into a supportive group setting

For many families, home programmes can be difficult to maintain. Not because anyone is doing anything wrong, but because life is busy and exercises can feel repetitive.

This class provides a dedicated weekly space to practice these skills in a more engaging and supported way — taking some of that pressure off at home.

For children moving on from 1:1 therapy, this is a valuable next step — helping them build independence, apply their skills in a more dynamic setting, and begin to navigate movement alongside peers.

Behind the scenes, each session is guided by physiotherapy principles — targeting key building blocks such as strength, balance, coordination, and body awareness. While it feels like play for the children, there is a clear structure and progression to support their development.

Children will be informally and continuously assessed through observation — noticing how they approach challenges, move, and respond within the session. Based on this, activities are gently adapted across the block to meet each child where they’re at and help them progress.

Parents also receive a simple home exercise guide based on class activities, making it easier to carry over progress into daily life.

Sessions are playful, engaging, and pressure-free, helping children build confidence in a way that feels fun, not clinical. Each child works at their own pace while benefiting from being alongside peers.

The goal is simple — to help your child feel more capable, confident, and willing to take part in movement.

Places are limited to keep the group small and supportive. Maximum 6 per group.

What the class focuses on?

Each session is designed to support children to develop the movement foundations they need for everyday play, sport and confidence.

  • Balance
  • Coordination
  • Strength
  • Body awareness
  • Movement confidence
  • Play with peers of similar abilities

In class, we’ll work on a range of movement skills through fun, play-based activities targeting strength (upper limb, lower limb, core), balance, and coordination.

A wide variety of exercises will be used to challenge children in different ways. Exercises will be trialled with the children, and depending on how they engage, activities may be adapted, progressed, or changed. It will very much depend on the group, but each child will be supported and challenged at their own level.

What is the structure of the class?

  • Block of 6 classes
  • 45 minutes per class

Important to know

Mighty Movers is a group-based physiotherapy exercise programme rather than an individual assessment or treatment session.

This class is not designed for children with acute injuries or those who require individualised physiotherapy for concerns such as pain, significant muscle tightness or rehabilitation needs.

Parent information

A parent or guardian must remain on-site for the duration of the class. Observation-based, informal assessment takes place during the block to help guide exercise selection and progression.

Sessions are delivered through demonstration, guidance and encouragement rather than hands-on facilitation.
